Master of Science in Oral Biology (M.Sc.)

1. Eligibility

A candidate for admission to the Oral Biology course must have a recognized degree of BDS or MDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery/Master of Dental Surgery/MBBS, MSC in either Medical Microbiology, Genetics or Biotechnology awarded by an Indian University or an equivalent qualification recognized by the respective apex bodies.

Candidate for the masters program should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the RGUHS before he can be admitted to the oral biology course.
In case of foreign nationals approval from apex bodies has to be availed.

2. Criteria for selection for admission.

Students for the Master of Science in Oral Biology Course shall be admitted based on the above mentioned eligibility criteria and the results of the interview conducted by the selection committee at the MMNGH Institute of Dental Sciences and research center.

3. Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS

No Candidate shall be admitted to the master of Oral Biology course unless the candidate has obtained and produced eligibility certificate issued by University. The candidate has to make an application to the University with the following documents along with the prescribed fee.1. Degree certificate issued by the University.
2. Marks cards of all the university examinations passed.
3. Attempt certificate issued by the principal
4. Completion of paid rotatory internship certificate from a recognized college as applicable.
5. Registration by any State Dental Council/Medical council as applicable
6. Candidates should obtain the Eligibility certificate before the last date of admission as notifies by the University. A candidate who has been admitted to masters program should register his/her name in the University within a month of admission after paying the registration fee.

4. Duration of the Course.

The course shall be of two year duration. The masters program will commence from 16th July and 1st January every year. To begin with a maximum of four eligible candidates will be selected every term. With expansion in infrastructure at the institute this  number ma be increased in future. The candidates are selected after they meet the eligibility criteria as described in Section 1 and after attending the interview. The decision of the interview board to select the eligible candidates shall remain final. The university nominee will be on the interview board for the selection. If MDS course is running in the department then only one candidate per guide can be nominated in that department.All the candidates aspirant of the graduate program are required to pursue the recommended course for at lease two years as full time candidate in this institution affiliated to and approved for Post graduate studies by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and recognized by the Dental Council India.

5. Method of Training

The training will include both didactic and practical laboratory training. The training of student for the program shall be full time with graded responsibilities in the didactic and research with the selected topic under the guidance of mentor. The participation of the students in all facets of educational process is essential. Every candidate should take part in seminars, group discussion, journal reviews. Training should include involvement in laboratory and experimental work, and research studies.

6. Attendance, Progress and Conduct

A candidate pursuing masters program should work in the concerned department of the institution for the full period as a full time student. No candidate is permitted to join any other course of study for the full period as a full time student. No candidate is permitted to join any other course of study or appear for any examination conducted by this university or any other university in India or abroad during the period of registration.

Each six months shall be taken as a unit for the purpose of calculating attendance.

Every candidate shall attend symposia, seminars, conferences, journal review meetings, CPC, case presentation, clinics and lectures during each term as prescribed by the department and not be absent from work without reasons.

Every candidate shall have not less than 80 percent of attendance in each term of the course. However, candidate should not be absent continuously as the course as a full time on.

7. Monitoring Progress of Studies

Work Diary / Log Book:  Every candidate shall maintain a work diary and record of his / her participation in the training program conducted by the department such as journal reviews, seminars, etc. The work diary shall be scrutinized and certified by the Head of the Department and head of the institution, and presented in the university practical/laboratory examination.

Periodic tests:

The concerned faculties may conduct periodical tests. The Theory exam will be held after end of the first year. The theory exams include written papers in all the different course modules. Passing in all the modules are a must for the further progress in the degree which primarily includes lab training and research under the candidates guide.

Records:

Records and marks obtained in tests/exams will be maintained by the Head of the Department and will be made available to the University when called for.
