It took five years to complete the garden and was opened in 1932. A brainchild of Sir Mirza Ismail, the erstwhile Deewan of Mysore, the garden was founded in 1927. The origin of the Brindavan Gardens is linked to the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara Dam, popularly known as KRS Dam. If you take a cab from Mysore, it will take slightly less time, approximately 40 minutes. It takes about an hour to drop you off at the bus stop near the garden. Today, the garden extends over an area of 60 acres and it is laid out in the three terraces, which ends in a horseshoe shape. The Department of Horticulture in 1927 started the work of laying out this garden, then called the Krishnarajendra Terrace Garden. The dam is named after Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV during whose rule the Chief Engineer, Sir M. Vishveswaraya engineered the construction of the dam. The Cauvery rises in the hills of Brahmagiri – in Talacauvery, Kodagu District in the Western Ghats and traverses Eastwards in Karnataka for about 320 Km.
