Oral medicine, diagnosis and radiology is a branch which deals with diagnosis and medical management of patient with systemic disorders involving oral mucosa.
It is the first department visited by patient and diagnosed for the complaint and routed to the other required department for the further management.
In this department a careful detailed history and examination of the patient is done. Various chair side investigative screening procedures are carried out to rule out habit in related and other lesions. Pain because of dental and non dental causes (orofacial pain) is also dealt in detail. De-addicting counseling is done for patients who are smokers, tobacco and ghutka chewers, beedi, cigarette…etc… Also preventive oral health care is provided to patients requiring treatment for cancer and other systemic illnesses.
Diagnosis of patients with various soft & hard tissue lesions affecting oral cavity (e.g.: HIV/AIDS, leukemia, hyperparathyroidism, pre-malignant & malignant lesions, muco-cutaneous lesions, cysts & tumors of jaws) is done at this department.
In oral radiology department diagnostic radiographs are taken which include intra-oral & extra-oral radiographs (conventional x-ray machine, specialized RVG machine) hi-tech digital OPG machine.
