Freshers Day 2025

Freshers Day for the academic year 2025 for the batch of 1st BDS and 1st MDS was held on 12th February 2025 at Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Belgavi. The program commenced with a welcome dance performed by classical dancers of 1st BDS followed by formal function. The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Asawari Sant, Dr. Vijay Kumar Patil, Principal Dr. Ramakant Nayak, Cultural In-charge Dr. Sanjiveeni Hattarki, and other cultural committee members and other college staff. The event was organised by Student Cultural Committee, Ms Aadnya Parmekar, Ms. Shreya Gawade, Ms. Prerana Desai, Ms. Sanjana Gowda, also in coordination with Literary Committee, Ms. Gayatri Zulpe, Ms. Shifa Gadi, Ms. Laafiza and Ms. Tulsi Hanwal. The theme for the event was “Netflix and Novels”. The festivities included ramp walk, dances, questionnaire and talent round based on which participants were evaluated. Dr. Kiran Singh and Dr. Shraddha Bhattad from 1st MDS were crowned as Mr. and Ms. Fresher MDS 2025 respectively. While Mr. Idrees and Ms. Poorvi B from 1st BDS were declared as Mr. and Ms. Fresher BDS 2025 respectively. The program ended with prize distribution ceremony.

NATIONAL PERIODONTIST DAY 2025

Department of Periodontology celebrated National Periodontist Day on February 24, 2025, with a special event held in the department. The inaugural function was graced by Mr. Amit Gupta, along with the Vice Principal – Dr. Preeti Kusugal, Academic In-Charge – Dr. Veerendra Uppin, Head of the Department – Dr. Pushpa, Reader: Dr. Sanjeevini and other esteemed faculty members.

As part of the celebration, Mr. Amit Gupta conducted a demonstration on the use of asurgical microscope, followed by a hands-on training session for all postgraduate studentsand faculty members, enhancing their practical skills and knowledge in periodontal microsurgery. The event was a valuable learning experience for everyone involved.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP – 03 JANUARY 2025

On the occasion of the 94^th Maratha Mandal’s Foundation day, Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Department of Oral Surgery, and Youth Red cross wing of the Institute organized a voluntary Blood Donation camp in collaboration with Mahaveer Blood Bank, Belagavi on 3rd January 2025. Principal Dr Ramakant Nayak, Dr Yellaburgi , Medical officer and his team, Vice Principal Dr. Preeti Kusugal, HOD Department of Oral Pathology Dr Vijayalakshmi Kottrashetti, HOD of Department of Oral Surgery Dr Tushar Bandiwadekar , YRC wing Incharge Dr Viplav Chavan Patil and YRC wing student volunteers graced the occasion. The occasion began with a floral homage to the late Shri Nathajirao G Halgekar, the founder chairman of the Nathajirao G Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre. Followed bywith inauguration ceremony.

Dr. Yellaburgi spoke on the importance of blood donation. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Dr Mehal, student member of YRC wing. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr (Smt) Rajshree Nagaraju, President, Maratha Mandal. A total of 54 volunteers donated their blood and made the event successful.

FDP 1/ – Project Quality Initiative in theory Based Assessment – 21st and 22nd Feb 2024

Curriculum committee and Department of Oral and Maxillofacial pathology of Maratha Mandal’s N.G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences conducted Faculty Development Program on 21^st and 22^nd Feb 2024 titled Project Quality Initiative in theory Based Assessment, which is an RGUHS /RAATI Initiative. The workshop was organized to enlighten the faculty regarding formulation of student question paper for the dental students. Dr Sheetal Sanikop of Maratha Mandal’s N.G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences is a RGUHS RAATI Trainer who was the resource person.

Formal Inaugural function was graced by Principal Dr Ramakant Nayak, Vice Principal Dr Preeti Kusugal, Administrative Incharge Dr Pushpa P and program was concluded by Dr Sujata Byahatti‌, by giving vote of thanks. A total of 47 faculties attended the workshop. The workshop was well received by all the faculty and activities conducted during the program helped them to understand in detail formation of structured question paper for the respective departments in both descriptive and MCQs question.

The college Annual Sports meet KHELOTSAV 2018 was organized by Dr Zarir Ruttonji (Sports Incharge) Maratha Mandal’s NGHIDS & RC from 08-10-2018 to 10-03-2018 Dr Ramakant Nayak ( Principal, Maratha Mandal’s NGHIDS & RC) and Dr Viraj Patil ( Vice Principal, Maratha Mandal’s NGHIDS & RC) inaugurated the sports meet. The Orange House headed by Dr Prateek Pawar ( Intern) and Dr Ritu ( Intern ) won the general championship. Miss Neelavathi ( I BDS) and Mr Ashwin ( I BDS ) were awarded the Upcoming Sportsmen’s Award. Dr Prateek Pawar ( Intern) was crowned the best Sportsperson Male and Dr Ritu ( Intern ) was crowned the best Sportsperson Female. Dr Viraj Patil and Dr Zarir Ruttonji gave away the medals and certificates.

Oral Hygiene Day

Department of Periodontology of Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Belagavi celebrated “Oral Hygiene Day” programme on 1st of August 2017 at the college premises. The programme was a National event, held simultaneously in the chosen 20 premier Dental Colleges across the country under the aegis of the Indian Society of Periodontology. The programme was inaugurated by the Vice Principal Dr. Viraj Patil. The staff and students, of the institute were present for the occasion.
The programme constituted of 2 lectures “Modern Day approaches in Oral Hygiene” and “Periodontics beyond Prophylaxis” delivered by Dr.Sandeep and Dr.Sachin. Around 100 students and interns attended the programme.

Graduation Day 2017

The Graduation day holds a place of pride in the hearts of all those who are associated with the professional college as it marks the completion of a significant milestone in the graduate’s success filled journey.

As many as 41 BDS, who passed out in 2016-17, received their degrees at the Graduation Ceremony of Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Belagavi on October 7, 2017.

The day scripts the completion of the academic year for students of the Class of 2012.

Prof. S.B. Hosamani, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, was the Chief Guest for the ceremony and President, Maratha Mandal, Smt Rajshree Nagaraju presided over the function. Dr. Ramakant Nayak, Principal, Dr. Viraj Patil, Vice Principal, Dr. Jagadish Hosmani, Academic In charge, Dr. Pushpa P, Administrative In charge of the Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao.G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Board members of Maratha Mandal, staff and families of the graduating students also graced the event.

The graduation day commenced with the ceremonial procession led by the Chief Guest, President, Principal, Vice Principal, Academic In-charge, Administrative Incharge and graduates wearing their graduation regalia in black. The impressive lineup generated a huge applause from the audience as they entered the venue of the ceremony.

Welcoming the dignitaries, the Principal, Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre laid out the path of the remarkable progress the institution has made in the last 25 years and urged the graduates to build a good character and not to be deterred by failures. He invoked the inspiring lives of Steve Jobs & Swami Vivekananda. In her presidential address, President, Maratha Mandal, Smt Rajshree Nagaraju fondly recalled the inception of the college and commended the faculty members of the college for their contribution to the success of the students and the college.

Prof. S.B. Hosamani, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi in his graduation day address said that the profession of medicine was prestigious with ample scope for growth. He mentioned that the present day dentistry was technology-based practice and always challenging. He advised the graduates that there were no shortcuts to attain success and urged them to attain good results through hard work and dedication. Congratulations to all our graduating students and their families!
